Construction areas are extremely dangerous, not only for workers, but for anyone in the vicinity. Everyone should take precaution in construction zones in order to prevent accidents.
Below are some common practices to follow when you are in a construction area.
- Always wear a hard hat.
- Wear other safety gear including gloves and steel-toed boots.
- Use an appropriately sized ladder at all times and make certain it is in good shape.
- Set up scaffolding on level ground and never use it as a toy. Make certain you are trained about protocol for working on scaffolding.
- Never stand below a roof or high area from where workers may accidentally drop tools or other heavy materials.
- If there is severe dust and dirt, wear a mask to avoid breathing in the debris.
- If you have to work in a trench area, make sure you have a safe escape route and that you are working near others.
