Car accidents are an everyday occurrence, and far too many of them happen every year.
In fact, approximately 30,000 people are killed and millions more injured in nearly 5.5 million vehicle accidents every year.
Below is a list of the four most common types of car accidents:
- Rear-end collisions. These are among the most common type of accident. Most are the fault of the person who hits you from behind, and they are often caused by distractions and tailgating.
- Single shot accidents. Many may believe that collisions with other vehicles are the most dangerous; however, single-car accidents which occur due to hitting a tree, running off the road or driving too fast in poor weather conditions are equally as perilous.
- Side collisions. Also know as T-bone accidents, these can be the scariest type of accident. The individual is often hit on the side, and many cars are not equipped with side airbags. Glass usually shatters in these collisions as well. They typically occur due to someone running a red light or stop sign.
- Accidents while merging. Blind spots can be lethal when you are attempting to change lanes. Adjust your mirrors accordingly and be extra cautious when merging. Use your signal so others won’t be surprised when you pull into their lane.
