Spring break is a much needed week off from the daily grind of school and work. Unfortunately, during this highly traveled time, a greater number of accidents occur on the road and at popular vacation destinations all over the world.
Follow these travel tips to stay as safe as possible during your week of fun and relaxation!
- Travel vaccinations. If you’re visiting another country, verify with their tourism office or embassy if any pre-travel vaccinations are necessary. Research any possible health concerns associated with your destination.
- Travel itinerary. Make certain someone who isn’t traveling with you is aware of your itinerary for spring break and check in with them occasionally on your vacation.
- Money safety. Never carry large amounts of cash with you on spring break because it may make you a target for a crime. However, you should make sure you have a little money on hand in case of an emergency.
- Personal health. Use plenty of sunscreen, stay hydrated, and be careful to avoid too much alcohol consumption. Know your body’s limits.
- Alcohol safety. Never drink and drive, or ride with anyone who is under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If you know you’re going to be drinking, it may be best to leave your car and take an Uber or other form of public transportation.
- Travel safety. Are you and your friends driving to your final destination? It’s often wise to switch out drivers so that you don’t get too tired behind the wheel. It’s also smart for two people to stay awake together so that one can help keep the other one awake.
- Be aware. Stay alert wherever you are. Whether you’re at a hotel, an ATM, or walking around town, be aware of your surroundings and be cautious. Crime rates often rise during high travel times like spring break.
