After a car accident, taking photos of the damage is often the best evidence you can gather if you plan to pursue personal injury compensation for what you’ve lost. Before you start snapping photos, review these four types of pictures that you should make certain to include:
- Your vehicle. Be sure to take photos of your own vehicle from all sides (even parts that don’t appear to be damaged) and from different angles and distances.
- Other vehicles. Snap a few pictures of other vehicles that were involved in the crash. Be sure to capture license plate numbers.
- The area around the accident. Sometimes, external factors like construction or a pothole can cause an accident. Take photos of the area around the crash as well as any potential hazards surrounding the accident site.
- The weather. The weather can also be a contributor in certain collisions. Take photos of the weather conditions at the time the accident occurred.
As a general rule of thumb, it’s important to take as many photos as possible after a car accident. Any one of them could contain the evidence you need. Ask a witness or someone you know to take pictures if you are unable to do so yourself. Generally, a smartphone camera is able to take sufficiently high quality photos.
