Every year for the past 30 years, the “Trouble in Toyland” report comes out to caution consumers about dangerous toys that can be found on store shelves. This year, the report – which is conducted by the U.S. Public Interest Research Group (U.S. PIRG) – found 22 toys that they considered unsafe for children to play with.
Reasons a toy may be deemed unsafe include:
- High levels of chemicals such as chromium or phthalates
- Choking hazards such as small balls, balloons, or toys that break easily into small pieces
- Magnets
- Excessive noise
- Improper warning labels
The “Trouble in Toyland” report has become a yearly tradition that has made toys safer and manufacturers more responsible. Keep your family safe by staying informed on toy recalls and hazards.
