Getting a Fair Settlement from Your Insurance Adjuster

October 12, 2015 By RedLawList Editor

young man on the phoneNegotiating with an insurance adjuster on a settlement amount can be a royal pain. And when you’ve been injured from an accident, not being able to receive the settlement offer amount needed to cover the medical bills piling up adds much undue stress.

If you’ve received an offer you feel is simply too low from an insurance company, you are well within your rights to send in a counteroffer.

When sending in a counteroffer to your insurance adjuster, here are some tips for helping to improve your chances of a successful negotiation:

  • Decide on a settlement price before negotiating.
  • Let the first offer pass.
  • If the adjuster’s offer is low, have them justify it.
  • Take a breath and analyze before acting rashly or out of anger.
  • Get everything in writing!

Sometimes these tactics still don’t work and insurance adjustors will continue to try and lowball. In this event, you may require the help an insurance dispute attorney who can negotiate with adjustors on your behalf to make sure you get a fair settlement offer.
